Charles Caldwell

Having retired in 2018, Charlie is our firm’s Designer Emeritus. Charlie joined the firm in 2001 after 12 years as Associate Artistic Director and Head of Design for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. He attended Eckerd College earning a BA in Art. Soon thereafter Charlie received his MFA in Drama from the University of Virginia and began his long respected career designing scenery and costumes for regional theatres across the country. During his 17 year career with us, he worked on a variety of projects although his specialty was building the very detailed and beautiful models we used in our presentations. Due to his vast knowledge and interest in so many topics, we fancied him as our Scholar in Residence. Charlie and his husband, J. Scott Finn, a retired professor of Architecture at Auburn University, now make their home in Richmond, Virginia. Charlie is the proud father of Sidney, a fine arts graduate from both Virginia Commonwealth University and Cranbrook Academy of Art.
