A native of Montgomery with an architecture degree from Auburn University, John joined McALPINE in 1995. In all his projects, he takes particular delight in balancing the precision of modern detailing with an eye toward history. Above all, he gains deep satisfaction from being part of a journey with his clients. John has been the recipient of considerable attention from national publications. His significant projects include a Napa residence, which graced the pages of Architectural Digest, a Dallas home, which Veranda covered, and a Florida beachfront retreat, which appeared in House Beautiful. New projects in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Chattanooga afford him the opportunity to design a vast assortment of residences, each fashioned with great care to fit the personality of the homeowner and the nature of its location. John’s attentions outside the office are driven by charitable and community concerns, volunteering at First Methodist Church and Clefworks, the inventive citywide music program. John is the lone male in a household he shares with his wife Caroline and their daughters, Martha Glen and Sadie, both of whom have inherited their parents’ good humor, outgoing personalities, and charm.
